Gameplay of Mizubaku Daibouken… on the TG16. Japanese titles are really hard to type. Apparently the english translation is Liquid Kids… which sounds oddly sexual.

Mega Man X was released in January 1994. This game took the original Mega Man games on the NES to a whole new level. This was the first time someone had seen 16-bit Mega Man and he looked great. Mega Man X was released in January 1994. This game took the original Mega Man games on the NES to a whole new level. This was the first time someone had seen 16-bit Mega Man and he looked great. Although this isn’t really Mega Man…or is it? The mystery involving this new character “X” sparked many questions such as why he was made and if this was the original Mega Man or not. Hopefully the upcoming Mega Man 10 will tell.

Once you start up Mega Man X you will be launched into an intro stage. The intro stage is based off, what seems to be, a very destructed highway. In this intro stage you will come across your first enemys in the game. At the end of the stage, a giant ship will appear and drop off a mysterious villain named Vile. There is no way to defeat him so you might as well just drop your controller and let him beat you up. Eventually, he will shoot out a yellow ball that will hit you and trap you into position. Vile mocks you and when all hope seems lost, a charged up shot from a mega buster damages Vile. Vile runs off like a little pansy and then Zero comes into the picture. Zero then tells you all this stuff that nobody actually cares about so why go into detail?

After the intro stage, you will see 8 new robot masters just like the classic NES versions of Mega Man. The only difference is that these robot masters don’t have the word “man” at the end of their names. Their names in order of recommended order are Chill Penguin, Storm Eagle, Flame Mammoth, Spark Mandrill, Armored Armadillo, Launch Octopus, Boomer Kuwanger (more like Ku-WEINER amirite?), and Sting Chameleon. These robot master’s stages are very unique and fun. The bosses are not that challenging in my opinion but that’s because I have beaten the game numerous times. The first time playing this game I would have never thought I would defeat it once it was so hard.

Throughout the game, you will encounter upgrades to your armor. Sometimes these upgrades are hidden so always keep an eye out for them. Other things to pick up along your way are heart tanks and sub tanks. Heart tanks will boost your health up so you’re able to take more hits and the sub tanks refill your health. To fill up your sub tanks, you need full health and then pick up other health capsules and those will go toward your sub tanks. These process can get tedious to fill them all up but it’s worth it. Once you get all the heart and sub tanks and defeat every robot master, you can go back to Armored Armadillo’s stage and at the very end, their will be a wall. Climb up it and repeat the process until you see another upgrade capsule. Dr. Light will greet you while dressed up as Ryu from the Street Fighter series and will give you a special weapon. The hadouken. This move will kill any enemy in one hit, even sigmas first form and his dog. To perform this attack, you need to press down and then right on the D-pad quickly and then shoot while still holding down right. Also to perform it you need to have full health. With a little practice, you’ll be able to master this technique in no time.

Once you defeat the 8 robot masters, you will begin the Sigma levels. The Sigma levels are basically the Wily stages of the past Mega Man games. These levels are not that unique and frankly, I was disappointed in them but that’s a very small complaint and that says a lot about the game. There is no true boss gauntlet in the game but instead the original 8 bosses are spread out in the levels and you will also encounter other bosses that are a pain in the ass in the sigma levels too. Don’t worry though. Once you’re done with the sigma levels you’re almost done.

At the last stage in the game, you will meet Sigma. The robot who made all the other robots in the game go maverick. Maverick meaning “to turn against humans”. He will let his dog attack you first saying that it would be unfair that he wouldn’t get the chance to hurt you. Simply charge up your mega buster before entering the room and come boss time, shoot it and then sprint right and use the hadouken. The dog will die in one hit and now it’s Sigma’s turn. You can use the same technique as you did for his dog but even if you can’t use it, his pattern is kind of easy. Once you defeat him, it’s time to fight his final form. This boss is very easy and once you find out the pattern you’ll beat him in no time.

Gameplay: Gameplay in the game is great and almost exactly the same as the other mega man games but in a way that improved upon them that I can’t put my finger on.

Music: This music is good but certainly not as good as the 8-bit Mega Man games but I don’t think it was expected to beat those anyways.

Graphics: The graphics in this game are fantastic. I don’t have much to say about it since I really don’t care that much for graphics anyways. But yeah, these graphics showed just what the SNES could do.

Story: This game’s story is what you play it for. I don’t want to give too much detail on this so I will stay out of it and you can play it for yourself. It is just fantastic. Even the guide gives you a journal of Dr. Cain.

Overall: This game is one of my all time favorites especially since I am a big fan of the SNES and Mega Man. The only parts lacking in the game is the music and the sigma stages.

Final Verdict: 9/10.
