Written Movie Review - Planes, Trains and Automobiles

By: Lyvalian

Planes, Trains & Automobiles, without a doubt one of the finest and funniest movies of the 80’s. It was directed by John Hughes and it stars, the late great John Candy and Steve Martin. However, what makes this movie so funny, magical and heartwarming is that there are just so many laugh out loud moments, and moments never to be forgotten.

Written Movie Review - Up in the Air

By: El Georgerino

Jason Reitman is the new big success story for directors for the last five years. After spending a few years directing a couple of short independant films, he busts out of the mold with his first full length motion picture, “Thank You for Smoking”. When this movie came out, it knocked me off my feet. He was somehow able to create a satire on the life of a lobbyist for the tobacco industry while somehow making you not want to curb stomp him, but instead feel for his situation and almost understand the arguments he presents in favor of big tobacco. Next, he came out with a little jem known as “Juno”, which didn’t seem like much at first glance — a story of a teenage girl who gets knocked up by her not-really boyfriend in the heat of mutual boredom — which really turned into an hilariously exaggerated look at just how weird and damned insane teenage love can be.

This review is just too fucking awesome. The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters is a really interesting (though skewed) documentary about competitive gaming.

Written Movie Review - Willow

By: Lyvallian

Willow, one of the greatest fantasy movies of the 80’s and of all time. Co-written by Ron Howard and George Lucas, it stars Warwick Davis and Val Kilmer as two of the most unlikely heroes you’ll ever hope to meet. If I was to sum this amazing movie up in one word, if would be “Magical”. This really does have everything, characters you’ll love, great story, Good vs Evil, monsters, and a journey you’ll never forget and one that will aways hold a special place in you heart.

Written Movie Review - Up

By: George Karounis (El Georgerino)

Up Movie PosterUp was great. There are very few films that I go see as Summer blockbusters and expect to get any type of substance out of them other than to fill a deranged human craving for excessive carnage and explosions (as per every Michael Bay movie) or to get some kind of bubble gum sensation from watching the same watered down and redundant romantic comedies banking off the formulas of When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle. Pixar has usually been quite good at providing relatively intelligent animation movies where they have just the right amount of maturity and playfulness where you can walk out of a theatre not thinking that the creators were pointing and laughing at your limited intellect as they cashed their cheques and bought themselves a new Porsche.
